Suzuki Institute Program Summary

The New England Suzuki Institute is a weeklong music camp modeled after the Matsumoto summer school founded by Dr. Suzuki in Japan. The experience is both motivating and inspiring for students, with a focus on improving musical aptitude, creating friendships, and having fun. NESI families will find inspiration and camaraderie as they make life-long connections with one another.

Pre-Twinkle Institute

  • Pre-Twinklers enroll in two classes daily: a master class and Orff class. The master class consists of students of the same instrument and age level.
  • Appropriate for ages 3-5

Budding Artist

  • Students are enrolled in 4 classes daily: a master class, repertoire class, and two elected enrichment classes of their choice.
  • Does Not Include Chamber Ensemble
  • Appropriate for ages 5-9

Young Artist

  • Students are enrolled in 5 classes daily: master class, repertoire class, chamber ensemble, and two elected enrichment classes of their choice.
  • Includes Chamber Ensemble
  • YOUNG ARTISTS AND TEENS ARE REQUIRED TO SEND A PLACEMENT VIDEO FOR CHAMBER MUSIC. PLEASE RECORD ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF YOUR MOST POLISHED PIECE AND POST TO YOU-TUBE BY MAY 1. ACCOMPANIMENT IS NOT REQUIRED.
  • Appropriate for ages 10 -12, books 4 – 6, as well as teens not yet at the book levels for the Teen Artist program

Second Instrument master class for Young Artist Level.

  • Young Artists who would like to take a secondary instrument master class may do so as one of their 2 chosen enrichment electives. The repertoire class will follow the primary instrument. There is an additional fee for this elective.

Teen Artist

  • Teens participate in a program of classes unique to their age group. The program offers a daily semi-private lesson (2 students per hour), large same instrument-family ensemble (i.e. string orchestra, guitar ensemble, piano ensemble), small mixed instrument chamber group, Blues theory and improvisation, Music History Tours, and 'Make a Movie with Chuck,' an indescribable multi-media experience.
  • YOUNG ARTISTS AND TEENS ARE REQUIRED TO SEND A PLACEMENT VIDEO FOR CHAMBER MUSIC. PLEASE RECORD ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF YOUR MOST POLISHED PIECE AND POST TO YOU-TUBE BY MAY 1. ACCOMPANIMENT IS NOT REQUIRED.
  • Appropriate for teens and 12 year olds who will turn 13 by October 15 and who are at a book 6 level for piano and violin or book 5 level for guitar, cello and viola. Teens who are not at the qualifying book levels should choose the Young Artist program.

Sibling Electives

  • Non-participating siblings may take enrichment classes. (See Class Descriptions)
