FAQs

  • Students should review all repertoire up to and including their current piece and come prepared to play a polished piece during the first class meeting. Memorization of all Suzuki and solo repertoire is expected, as this will help the teacher assess each student's needs by hearing a piece that is technically and musically well-prepared.

  • A parent or guardian at the New England Suzuki Institute must accompany all children aged 12 and under. Additionally, all students staying in Colby College housing, regardless of age, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • The masterclass is one of the most valuable experiences for students at NESI. Students will be grouped in teams of 2-4, depending on their level, and will meet with a teacher for an hour each day. Every day, students will receive an assignment to practice before returning to the masterclass the next day.

  • Students will be placed in small ensembles where each student will have their own part. Music will be sent via email in mid-May, and students are expected to learn their parts with the help of their home teacher prior to arriving at NESI. Chamber groups, which can include various combinations of instruments, will rehearse daily with a chamber coach and perform at the end of the week. Chamber music is a fun way for students to collaborate, taking the lead on their own parts. It is a popular part of the program for students in Book 4 and above.

  • Siblings are welcome to attend NESI and are encouraged to participate in enrichment classes for an additional fee. However, siblings not enrolled in NESI should remain quiet and respectful. Parents should supervise their siblings to ensure they do not disrupt classes.

  • When registering your child for NESI, there is an option to make housing requests. These requests can include preferences for proximity to other families or specific floors. While we will do our best to accommodate all requests when creating room assignments, we cannot guarantee them due to availability.

  • If you decide to cancel your registration, please email us. Tuition is refundable, minus a $125 non-refundable deposit per student, if we receive written notification before June 1st. Applicants who withdraw after June 1st will forfeit all fees.
